Cupertino, U.S., April 17, 2009 – ExtendLogic, an leading IT outsourcing and consulting services provider known for its reliable, high-quality and cost-effective software development, localization and R&D outsourcing services in fields of mobile(iPhone, Android, Mobile backend), rich media and enterprise applications, has successfully held the event of Apple iPhone China Market Opportunities at Apple Headquarter by collaborating with IMUG (International Mac User Group) on 16th, April 2009.

Rumor has it the iPhone will launch in China in this May. Based on the close relationships with Chinese carriers and experience of localizing for the Chinese market, David Cao, the CEO of ExtendLogic addressed an overview of the major players in the carrier space, consumers’ behavior in China and how U.S. developers and companies catch the China Market opportunities.

“Both China Mobile and China Unicom are going to make a heavy investment to build up its base stations and extend the 3G coverage through the country. Consumers in China are hot on Text Messaging and free game downloading, so selling the applications through the operator deck is the primary way to make money in current phase.” David Cao said.

From his speech, we learnt that although operators are now moving to the content by building own music service or subsidiaries to operate as SP to squeeze profitability of SPs, 3G in China still facing lots of challenges such as no killer applications, operators are not ready yet and lack of 3G content and so forth. However, the market will be changed more or less if iPhone can be formally introduced into China Market. So for iPhone developers, they can make money in China market by selling the download, providing free app with built-in advertisement, sharing the profit by licensing, or selling your app to content providers by one time. Developers or firms can create apps by themselves to target the China market, or licensing out, and of course choosing a partner who is familiar with China and China consumers’ behaviors to develop or localize their apps is also a good choice.

“ExtendLogic is now providing the package to help U.S. developers or firm entry into China market. With China-based iPhone development team, extendlogic can help you on app development, localization, marketing your app in China and porting between other platforms to iPhone.” David Cao added.

After David’s presentation, Danica Brinton addressed more about localization for iPhone as Danica and her localization agency LocLabs, have been involved in the localization of iPhone and production of iPhone-related marketing media into 18 languages for the past 2 years.

In her presentation, Danica shared some of her surprising discoveries around global adoption and new market opportunities for mobile applications and games. She also showed new localization models and user-engagement strategies particularly suitable for these new territories and the iPhone platform.

“Both art and engineering are involved into localization. It is not just simply translating one language to another, but to make the app accommodate to consumers’ behaviors in different regions.” Danica said.

Over 60 people attended this event and most of them believe that China will be a very important market for iPhone application developers and firms in the near future.

Since world-leading telecom solutions providers in China such as Huawei, ZTE have established their R&D centers in Xi’an, Xi’an is now considered as the center of China’s 3G R&D. “At same time, our engineering team will focus on large scale iPhone application and game development, as well as our own product in education games. So the iPhone developers from training centers will be the solid foundation for us to move fast and compete with other providers to keep our leading position as iPhone solution provider in China.” David added.
